Glossybox Review by Jen – July 2017

This is my first review of a beauty box so do please bear with me and be gentle!

So, after much deliberation I decided to give the July Glossybox a go. I like the idea of a box that has the element of surprise, you know there are going to be items that you have probably never heard of before which adds to the excitement. Glossybox is a subscription box that can be purchased on a monthly basis or on a 3/6/12 month plan.

Prices are as follows:

  • Monthly Plan £10 + £3.25 postage
  • 3 Month Plan £9.50 + £3.25 postage
  • 6 Month Plan £9.00 + £3.25 postage
  • 12 Month Plan £8.50 + £3.25 postage

I can honestly say after receiving and unboxing, the contents have lived up to expectations.
July edition is presented in a beautiful coral coloured box, entitled ‘hello summer’. As I lift the lid I’m greeted with a little card which gives me a clue as to an item which is included inside, along with a welcome greeting card from Glossybox. I love the trademark look of the ribbon tie enclosing the hidden gems to be revealed, it adds a certain suspense!

What’s inside I hear you all scream…………

  • Banana Setting Powder by Bellapierre Cosmetics R.R.P. £25

Now if like me you have been completely perplexed by the idea of ‘baking’ then fear not ladies! This full sized product gives you the opportunity to have a go and experiment.
I’d never used this product, nor tried baking my make-up before so was a newbie to this.
I have to say it goes on rather smoothly, applied with a sponge applicator as you would foundation. The trick is to leave it to settle onto your foundation after application, preferably 5 to 10 minutes, before gently dusting off.
No powdery residue was left behind (I’m not a fan of the cakey look) and blemishes looked reduced therefore this gets my official thumbs up!

  • Small Fan (A10) Brush by Spectrum Collections R.R.P. £4.99

I had to give my best Gollum impression to my eldest daughter when I caught her trying to steal this brush from my box! The beautiful colours are appealing, not to mention the softness of the bristles. I sat brushing them over the back of my hand for 5 minutes whilst staring at my daughter with glee!!
This brush was ideal to use in conjunction with the setting powder, a perfect accompaniment in this months box. I’m glad my husband won’t read this so can safely say I shall be purchasing additional brushes to add to the collection.

  • MONUspa Soothing After Sun Lotion 100ml by MONU Professional Skincare

*Full sized product 180ml R.R.P. £19.95*
This item is not a full sized product however 100ml is still a very generous sized amount.
True to English weather I have been unable to put this product fully to the test. As I type this review I can assure you it is raining, windy and generally miserable outside!
What I can tell you however is this product smells lush, contributed by the addition of Aloe Vera. The lotion feels lightweight when applied and smooths into the skin quickly. There is no greasy residue on the skin, leaving it soft to the touch. I feel it also good to note that this brand is completely against animal testing, something I know a lot of BoXession members are conscious of.

  • Macaroon Tint Balm in Crushed Berry by Cutebalms R.R.P. £5.99

This is the most cutest lip balm I’ve seen!
Not to mention it raising eyebrows in our household due to the fact that the making of macaroons has totally evaded my husband. Try as he might, he just can’t make them!
This cheery little lip balm is a beautiful pink hue, smells as lush as it looks and can even been used on cheeks to add a hint of colour.
Definitely a handbag staple and one I shall be hiding away from my daughters!

  • Spiral Hairbands by Papanga R.R.P. £4.99

So, I saved this product until last because this was the least exciting for me. Not because I was disappointed to have them in my box, more because I’ve tried similar hairbands previously and couldn’t get along with them. I wish I could say my mind had been swayed by these, unfortunately not. I’m sat wearing one now and to be honest I prefer another brand and type of hairband, they feel more secure and neater in my hair.
This pack came with 3 different colours enclosed – brown, mid blonde and blonde. Unfortunately on taking out my hair this hairband distorted somewhat, however still useable. Personally, not my cup of tea so I shall be offering to my daughters.
Overall, a really good edit for July and one I’d happily recommend to any BoXession followers. There was only one item in this box I wasn’t fond of however you cannot please everyone all the time and I know my daughters will make use of the hairbands.
The total value of items in this box is approximately £52, which is amazing considering I paid a total of £13.25 including postage and packaging. That is a total saving of just over £38!
